Funeral services for Arthur Wesley Geddes were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Neiser Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. John Curtis Jr. officiating. Burial was in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
Mr. Geddes died Saturday night, March 15, 1969 in Carthage Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 20, 1882, in Fountain Green, a son of Thomas M. and Lillie Latherow Geddes. He was a graduate of Howe's Academy, now Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He studied law two years at Iowa State University in Iowa City. He married Clara Sibert April 1, 1909, in the Fountain Green community. He was a farmer, Justice of the Peace, Farm Bureau director, member of the LaHarpe Masonic lodge and wrote for the Fountain Green news. He moved to Carthage in 1936 when he was hired as a case worker for the Department of Public Aid. He worked 16 years until he retired at the age of 70 years. He then did abstract work for 10 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Brady (Christine) Washburn of North Kingstown. R. I.; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Lord, Dunedin, Fla.; one brother, Allen G. Geddes of LaHarpe; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, Robert; and one sister, Mrs. Julia Astle.
