E. Virginia Frazee

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Elizabeth Virginia Frazee, 84, of Carthage, died at 3:05 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 31, 1997) in her home.

She was born Sept. 27, 1912, in rural Denver, Ill., a daughter of Lawrence and Sarah Shinkle Frazee.

Miss Frazee attended school in Carthage and was a 1934 graduate of Carthage College, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in biology.  She taught school in Wyaconda, Mo., and also at Rossville, Fairview and Disco in northern Hancock CountyMiss Frazee worked as a microbiologist for the State of Illinois Public Health Laboratory in Urbana for 33 years until retiring and moving back to Carthage to live with her sister, Dorothy, in 1974.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Carthage for 60 years and its missionary society.  She also was a member and officer of Daughters of the American Revolution, PEO, Women's Club, American Association of University Women and Hancock Historical Society.  Miss Frazee was an avid flower gardener, amateur photographer and doll collector.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Frazee of Carthage; and numerous cousins.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Catharine.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage by the Rev. Mark Ernst and the Rev. James Fox.  Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in rural Bentley.

Visitation will be held after 3 today with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 tonight in the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Carthage or Hancock Blessing Hospice.
