Swanee Lee Franks, 75, a lifetime resident of Carthage, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000 at her home. She was born March 13, 1924 in Carthage, the daughter of Henry and Jennie Cooper Hurt. On Dec. 24, 1965 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she married Harvey Franks. He survives.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Sharon Smith of Carthage; Mrs. Mike (Barbara) Batley of Wayland, Mo.; one son, Gary L. (Wendy) Mosley of Carthage; one step-daughter, Sherry Winkilman of Arenzville, Ill.; one step-son, Gary Franks of El Paso, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She had been employed at Pittsburgh Plated Glass, Carthage College and Robert Morris College. She was of the Christian faith and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Carthage. She loved music and had performed on stage. She loved flowers, cats, her children and her grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 20, 2000 at DeJong-Neiser Funeral Home in Carthage with Rev. Phil Nevius officiating. Burial was in Franklin Cemetery, east of Carthage.
