HARVEY FRANKS

Jan. 9, 1929 -- Nov. 12, 2005

Harvey Franks, 76, of Carthage, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

He was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Carthage, a son of Elmer J. and Hazel L. Edgecomb Franks.  He married Swanee Lee Hurt in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Dec. 24, 1965.  She died in 2000.

He is survived by one daughter, Sherry (Gary) Winkleman of Arenzville; one son, Gary (companion Leslie) Franks of Thailand; two step-daughters, Sharon Smith of Carthage and Barbara Batley of Wayland, Mo; one step-son, Gary Mosley of Branson, Mo.; two sisters, Jean (William) Twitchell and Katie (Dick) Spurgeon, both of Ferris; nine granddaughters; three grandsons; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Swanee; one sister, Evelyn Lovell; one brother, Donald L. Franks; and one granddaughter, Melissa Franks.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He worked for the U.S. Postal Service retiring after 20 years of service.  He then worked part time for the Carthage Park District, Carl Motors in Carthage and First Community Bank in Carthage.  He was an active member of the V.F.W. and American Legion in Carthage.  He was known by his family and friends as a person who was always willing to be there for them.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.  Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery in Carthage.

A memorial fund has been established.
