JAMES FORTNEY PASSES AWAY

James Fortney of Hamilton, a nephew of John McConnell, passed away at 8:00 a. m. Tuesday.  The funeral will be held at 2:00 p. m. at the Rodden Funeral Home in La Harpe Thursday afternoon.

James A. Fortney, 71,
Dies Tuesday At
Macomb Hospital

James Alexander Fortney, 71, of Hamilton rural route, former resident of Fountain Green and LaHarpe communities, died Tuesday morning at the St. Francis hospital in Macomb.  He had been in failing health the last two years because of a heart condition.  For the last six months he had been seriously ill and three weeks ago had entered the hospital.

He was a retired railroad employe and had moved to the Hamilton vicinity eight years ago.  He was born near Fountain Green Feb. 7, 1879, a son of Frank and Fanny McConnell Fortney, and was united as a young man with the Church of Christ.

On March 6, 1900 he married Lillie Jane Patterson, who survives with two daughters, Mrs. Gayle Hensley of Bloomington and Mrs. Gladys Tow of Macomb.  Also surviving are two grandsons, Herman D. Tow Jr. and Thomas R. Hensley.  A brother, Charles, is deceased.

Funeral service will be held at 2 this afternoon in the Radden funeral home in LaHarpe, conducted by his son-in-law, Rev. Chester Hensley of Bloomington.  Burial will be in LaHarpe cemetery.

James A. Fortney
Of Hamilton Dies

James Alexander Fortney of Hamilton, former La Harpe resident, died Tuesday morning at 8:30 in St. Francis hospital in Macomb.  He had been ill the past two years and was a hospital patient for three weeks.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 in the Radden funeral home in La Harpe, conducted by Rev. Chester Hensley of Bloomington, a son-in-law.  Burial will be in La Harpe cemetery.

Mr. Fortney was born Feb. 7, 1879, near Fountain Green.  For many years he lived in LaHarpe, moving to Hamilton eight years ago.  He married Lillie Jane Patterson on March 6, 1900.  At an early age he joined the Church of Christ.  He was a retired railroad worker.

Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Gale Hensley of Bloomington and Mrs. Gladys Tow of Macomb, and two grandsons, Thomas Royce Hensley and Herman Dale Tow, Jr.  A brother, Charles, preceded  him  in death.
