Column 1FORMER CARTHAGE BOY DIES
Charles William Fletcher, 58, of 509 11th St., Fort Madison, Iowa, for 34 years an engineer on the C. B. & Q. railroad, died Thursday, January 14, at 8:12 p. m. He became suddenly ill while driving his car toward the west end of the city on an errand. The cause of his death was not revealed.
Mr. Fletcher left home at 7:15 p. m. and was proceeding west on Ave. L when he became ill. He parked the car in the 2600 block and called to passersby for help. Louis Hatala was attracted by his calls and assisted Mr. Fletcher by driving him to the Santa Fe hospital, where he soon passed away.
Mr. Fletcher was born January 22, 1884 at Carthage and had been a resident of Fort Madison for two years. He was a member of the B. of L. F. and E. of Hannibal, Mo., A. F. and A. M. No. 188, Hannibal lodge chapter R. A. M. and of the Knights Templar of Hannibal. Prior to moving to Ft. Madison he worked out of Keokuk and Hannibal. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fletcher.
Mr. Fletcher was married at Warsaw November 19, 1906 to Edith Stephens, who survives.
Funeral services were held at Clements chapel Sunday at 2:30 p. m., with Rev. W. S. D. LaMont officiating. He was buried in the Oakland cemetery at Warsaw, and Masonic services were conducted at the grave.
