WILFRED FECHT

March 21, 1917 -- August 3, 2001

Wilfred Marten Fecht, 84, a lifelong farmer of Carthage, died Friday, August 3, 2001, in the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

He was born March 21, 1917 in rural Carthage, a son of Chark and Hilka Fecht.  On March 30, 1973, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Carthage, he was married to Arline Huls.  She survives.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Donna Jean) Eilers of Keokuk, Iowa; two sons, Wayne (Audrey) of Carthage, and Norman (Terry) of West Point; eight grandchildren, Jerry (Lynn), Mark (April), Dean (Angie), Mrs. Donnie (Debbie) Limkeman, Greg (Teresa) Marshall, Mrs. John (Sherri) Harvey, and Jeffery and Christina Fecht; 13 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter; one infant granddaughter; four sisters, Tena Berg, Frieda Huls, Minnie Redenius, and Lucille Fecht; one brother, George E.

He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was baptized on April 9, 1917, and confirmed on April 9, 1933.  He served on the church council, several improvement committees, was a Union school board director for many years, served on the Memorial Hospital board, and was active in R.S.V.P. until his health began to fail.  He also helped support, both the Bible a Month Club and the Christian Children's fund, for many years.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 6, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Carthage with Rev. Greg Busboom officiating.  Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
