George L. Eppley, 88, of LaHarpe, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
He was born March 14, 1917, near Durham, a son of William and Ina Babcook Eppley. On March 2, 1941, he married Gladys Shinn near Durham.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Suzanne (David) Miller of Rushville and Diane (Greg) Blythe of LaHarpe; one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Eppley of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale (Emogine) Eppley of LaHarpe.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Eppley, and one sister, Mary Burford.
He was a graduate of the Dallas City High School. He farmed east of LaHarpe and later in the Durham area. He also worked for the telephone company in Carthage, the Nauvoo Cheese Factory and Banks & Beals Funeral Home. He was a precinct committeeman for Durham Township and a member and president of the former Durham School Board. He was also a member of the Durham United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for many years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Rev. Diane Bigley officiated. Burial followed in the Durham Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for the Durham United Methodist Church.
