Robert E. "Short" Ellefritz, 83, of Burnside, died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1926, in Burnside, the son of Lawrence and Edith (Edgecomb) Ellefritz. He married Betty Joan Learned in 1953 in Carthage. She died in 1992.
Robert is survived by two children, Rickey L. Ellefritz of Adrian and Penny S. Vass of Niota; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; two brothers, Vern (Carolee) Ellefritz of Carthage and Danny (Pat) Ellefritz of Ferris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, William "Jackie", Gayle "Pete", and Glen "Bill" Ellefritz; and a long time companion, Dorothy Scott.
Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years. He was a member of the Carthage V.F.W. and American Legion.
Robert enjoyed attending county fairs, fishing, shooting pool, mushroom hunting, and gardening.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Burial followed in McKay Cemetery near Burnside.
A memorial fund has been established.
Printy Funeral Home of Carthage was in charge of arrangements.
