Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Earls

Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Earls of Carthage quietly observed their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 16.  A dinner at Hotel Nauvoo that evening was given in their honor.

Those attending the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. Earls, Ross Earls and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Swain and Earl of Carthage and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Earls, Elizabeth and Peter of Nauvoo.

The Earls were married near Carthage Oct. 16, 1904, and have always lived in the Carthage vicinity.  They are the parents of four sons and five daughters.  The sons are: Willard of Skokie, Ross of Carthage, Wayne of Nauvoo and Kenneth of Portland, Ore.  Their daughters are: Helen, Mrs. D. J. McGinnis of Skokie; Blanche, Mrs. Eldon Swain of Carthage; Bessie, Mrs. A. W. Crow of Corpus Christi, Texas; Corrine, Mrs. D. A. Schardon of Nashville, Tenn., and Joanne, Mrs. Michael Henrick, Quincy.  They also have six grandchildren.

Fannie Earls

Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie F. Earls, 92, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Neiser Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. Glenn V. Manis officiating.  Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery.  A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church in Carthage.

Mrs. Earls died Sunday evening, May 7, 1978, in Montebello Manor Nursing Home in Hamilton.  She was born Oct. 2, 1885, in Carthage, a daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Frances Kimbrough Koontz.  She married Waddie Iverson Earls Oct. 16, 1904, in Carthage.  He died in 1964.  She was also preceded in death by two children, three grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carthage.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. J. J. (Helen) McGinnis of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Eldon (Blanche) Swain of Carthage, Mrs. A. W. Crow of Corpus Christie, Tex., Mrs. D. A. (Corrine) Shardon of Mendon and Mrs. Michael (Joanne) Henrick of Quincy; three sons, Ross Earls of Hamilton, Wayne Earls of Monterey, Calif., and Kenneth Earls of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one brother, Ross Koontz of Prather, Calif.
