Mrs. Cora Earls

Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Earls were held Wednesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. in the Basco Baptist church, the Rev. Leland R. Beck, pastor of the Carthage Christian church officiating.  Mrs. Zella Hanerhoff and Miss Irva Peters sang "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Valley of Peace."  Pallbearers were Douglas Steffey, Junius Fleming, William Damron, James Ancelet, Curtis Ayers and John Richardson.  Eastern Star rites were conducted by the Browning chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Denver.  Burial was in Basco south cemetery.

Mrs. Earls, who was 90 years old, died Monday, May 26, in Memorial hospital in Carthage where she had been a patient for 11 days.

Born in Centralia Jan. 7, 1868, she was a daughter of John and Sarah Wear Twaddle.  On Jan. 17, 1889 she was married to Sherman W. Earls, who died several years ago.  They made their home in Basco for 51 years.

She was a member of the Basco Baptist church and of the Amoma class of that church.  She was also a charter member of the Jewel chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Basco.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Phillips of Basco and three sons, John Vern of Hamilton, Orral D. of California, and Garnet B. of Basco; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and a son, Frank L., who died April 30, 1954.
