Earls-Sherman Nuptials
In Baptist Church

Miss Bonnie Beth Sherman, daughter of Jess D. Sherman of Carthage and the late Emma Sherman, became the bride of Ervin G. Earls, of Basco, in an impressive candle light service, Christmas Eve at 4 o'clock in the First Baptist Church in Carthage.  The Rev. W. Kline, Lutheran minister of Basco, officiated at the double ring ceremony, before a large number of relatives and friends.

The altar was decorated with baskets of white and gold chrysanthemums, twin candelabras on either side and small evergreen trees.  Tall white tapers were lighted by the ushers, Glen Dickinson and Lee Junk, which served as an effective background for the ceremony.

Mrs. Roy Dighton, at the organ, played a program of nuptial music preceding the ceremony, and accompanied the soloist, Miss Jeanette Haislip, who sang, "I Love You Truly."  The traditional wedding marches were also played by Mrs. Dighton.

The maid of honor, Mrs. Rex Schilling of Basco, wore a  floor length gown of blue chiffon with lace, low neck line, short puffed sleeves and a full skirt.  She carried a colonial bouquet of mixed flowers.

The bride given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a bridal gown of white slipper satin fashioned princess style with Shirley Temple neckline.  The traditional long sleeves were fitted, the full skirt which was gathered to the pointed waistline hung in a graceful train.  The finger tip length veil of white tulle, edged with lace, fell from a coronet of white satin and net embroidered with seed pearls.  She wore white satin slippers.  Her only ornament was a small gold locket, worn by her grandmother when she was a bride.  She carried two orchids on a small bible, which belonged to the groom's great grandmother, with bookmarks of white satin streamers.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlors for relatives and friends.  The first piece of the three tier wedding cake, with miniature bride and groom, was cut by Mr. and Mrs. Earls, after which Mrs. Marilyn Bilderback presided.  Also assisting hostesses: Grace Kunkel, Pauline Peer and Nellie Scheurermann served delicious punch.

The bride was graduated from Carthage high school in the class of 1945, and attended Carthage College.  The bridegroom was graduated from Basco high school.  He served two years with the armed forces in the West Pacific Theatre, after which he attended college as a part of his schooling in the government project.  He is now engaged in business in Basco.

On Christmas day the bridal couple with Mr. and Mrs. William Earls, of Basco, parents of the groom, Jess Sherman, father of the bride, were entertained at a turkey dinner at the McVay home southeast of Carthage.  Later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Earls departed on a honeymoon trip to Colorado and other points of interest in the West.  For traveling the bride chose a suit of hearbeat blue with brown accessories.  Upon their return they will reside in Basco where the groom has a furnished home.
