Carthage Passed
Away SundayDaniel Thomas Dunsworth, son of Joseph and Katherine Timberlake Dunsworth, was born on a farm in McDonough county, Dec. 7, 1865, and passed away at his home in Carthage, Ill., Dec. 18, 1938, at 10:25 a. m.
When a child the family moved to a farm in Harmony township, this county, where he grew to manhood. He attended the country school and assisted his parents on the farm. At the age of 21 years he was united in marriage to Catherine Yetter, daughter of William and Mary Yetter, and they resided on a farm for twenty-five years. Mr. Dunsworth was considered one of the best farmers in his community.
In 19?? he moved with his family to Carthage, where he became associated with the Chevillon Implement Co. Later he followed the business of pump repairing and windmill work until his health failed. His activities took him over a large territory, where he was favorably known and highly respected for his efficient methods, for every task he undertook was well done. Another well loved part of his life was caring for his vegetable and flower garden. Although suffering intensely in his last illness he did not complain and always had a cheerful greeting for his friends.
He was the father of ten children, of whom six preceded him in death, Gladys, Glona, Marguerite, Ernest, Franklin and Merlin. He is survived by his widow, a daughter Hortense (Mrs. William Helms) of Rochelle, Ill., and three sons, Fred of Carthage; Harley, of Hammond, Ind., and Gilbert of Chicago. There are also five grandchildren, Darline and Marguerite Dunsworth of Carthage; Barbara Jean and Patricia Ann Helms of Rochelle, and Danny Dunsworth of Chicago. Surviving also are two brothers, Walter of Hamilton and Clarence of Ferris and two sisters, Maggie Hardy of Carthage and Alley Davison of Elvaston.
Funeral services for Mr. Dunsworth were held at The Elms Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 20, at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Joseph R. Hoy officiating. Mrs. E. P. Cutler and Miss Dorothy Frazee sang with Miss Jessie Duffie as accompanist. Interment was in Harmony cemetery.
Pall bearers were Ewell, Harry, Melvin and Elmer Dunsworth, Gay and Ernest Boston.
