Column 5DEATH OF MRS. EDWARD DAVIS
JUNE 8. -- Departed from this life at 7 o'clock P. M., June 8th, 1888, of consumption. Mrs. Edward Davis, Sr.; was born in Hancock Co., Feb. 2, 1846; her age being 42 years, 4 months and 6 days. Was married at the age of twenty on the 4th day of January, 1866, to Edward Davis, of Brown Co., where they resided for eight years. They then removed from there to Hancock Co., in 1874 on the place where they resided at her death. She leaves a husband, a daughter and a son, besides a host of relatives and many friends who mourn her loss. She became a member of the Christian church when quite young, having joined at Mount Pleasant, where her membership still remains. Thus old Father Time has again thrust his sharp sickle into the ripe grain that it may be thrashed and garnered in the sepulcher, there to remain till the resurrection morn where it will come forth with the pale sheeted nations of the earth to receive the reward with all those who love His appearing. Having fought the good fight, may she be found on the right hand among the blessed. The funeral services were conducted by Judge Scofield at Elm Tree church Sunday, June 10th. The remains were then carried to the Holland cemetery and interred to await the dawn of the resurrection day.
Our mother now sleepeth,CARD OF THANKS. -- The family and relatives of the above deceased wish to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to their many kind friends who assisted in their late and sad bereavement.
Her sufferings are o'er,
The love of her children,
She knoweth no more
Her heart with great love
For all seemed to flame,
Which makes us hope
We will meet her again. She rest beneath
Her native earth,
With grateful hearts
We sing her worth,
Her gentle ways
Shall ever dwell
In hearts that loved her,
Love her well.We clasped her pale hands
Over her breast,
We laid her down gently,
And left her to rest,
We pressed on her cheek
The last kiss of love,
We know angels welcome
Our mother above.
