CHARLES DADANT

December 12, 1919 -- March 24, 2001

Charles "Chuck" Dadant, 81, a life long resident and businessman of Hamilton, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, in the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.

He was born December 12, 1919, in Hamilton, a son of Maurice G. and Helen Hassett Dadant.  On May 23, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, he was married to Arlene Timberlake.  She survives.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Hamilton; two daughters, Vicki (Wayne) Marting of Hamilton, and Marta (Mark) Menn of Hamilton; two sons, Tim (Mary) Dadant of Hamilton, and Nick (Gloria) Dadant of Hamilton; eight grandchildren, Nicole Jones, Jennifer Blum, Gabe and Chris Dadant, Ashley and Sarah Marting, Luke and Jake Menn; two great grandchildren, Brittany and Zach Jones; and one brother, Phil (Irene) Dadant of Tarzana, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, John Joseph; one brother, Robert, and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Ross.

He was an owner and past president of Dadant and Sons in Hamilton, and a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton.  He was a graduate of Hamilton High School and the University of Illinois.  He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and University I-mens Association.  He served as president of the board of directors of the University of Illinois Athletic Association.  During World War II he served as a U.S. Naval Officer in the South Pacific.  He was past president of the Hamilton Park Board, past president of the Hamilton Kiwanis Club, past president of St. Joseph Hospital Board, co-founder and charter member of Hamilton V.F.W., co-founder of Hamilton Little League, and a member of the Honey Industry Council.

Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, March 28, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, with the Father R.M. Lukoskie as celebrant.  Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.

Memorials have been established for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, and may be mailed to, or left at the Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton.
