Arlene Dadant, 85, a lifelong resident of Hamilton died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born on March 12, 1919, in Burnside, the daughter of Floyd Allen and Clara McKim Timberlake. She married Charles "Chuck" Dadant on May 23, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa. He died on March 24, 2001.
She is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Wayne) Marting of Nauvoo and Marta (Mark) Menn of Hamilton; two sons, Tim (Mary) Dadant of Quincy and Nick (Gloria) Dadant of Hamilton; one sister, Patricia Ann Timberlake of Clarence, Iowa; one brother, Floyd Allen Timberlake of Carthage; eight grandchildren, Nicole Jones, Jennifer Blum, Gabe Dadant, Chris Dadant, Ashley Marting, Sarah Marting, Luke Menn and Jake Menn; and five great-grandchildren, Brittany Jones, Zach Jones, Samantha Jones, Timothy Jones and Joe Blum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one infant son, John Joseph Dadant.
After attending Carthage College, she taught for several years in rural schools in Hancock County. She was a volunteer for St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton and had attended All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, playing bridge and reading. Dadant was a strong supporter of the Hamilton Public Library. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
A private family visitation will be held.
Memorials may be made to the Hamilton Public Library. Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
