Column 1Mrs. Beauford Cox.
Melissa Frances Hill, daughter of Thomas and Nancy Hill, was born in Floyd county, Virginia, September 14, 1848, and passed away at her home in Denver, Ill., on November 10th, 1927, as the evening shades appeared, making her stay on earth 79 years, 1 month and 27 days.
On August 8, 1883, she was united in marriage with Beauford Cox. To this union was born one son, Posy D., who died in infancy.
When young she united with the Primitive Baptist church in Floyd county, Virginia. After coming to Illinois about twenty-six years ago, she moved her membership to Bentley, Ill., being a faithful member until her death.
She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother. She was always devoted to her home and family. Too much cannot be said of her beautiful life, but our loss is her eternal gain.
She had been in failing health for the last two years and was an invalid for almost a year. She bore her suffering with great patience until she fell asleep in Jesus.
She leaves to mourn her departure her aged husband and three step-children, Mrs. Lula D. Weeks, of Burnside; Henry F., of Fountain Green, both being at her bedside during her last hours, and Walton E., who lives in Virginia. She also leaves nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Elder Webb, at the Baptist church in Bentley, Ill., on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 12, 1927. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in Harmony cemetery.
Written by her granddaughter, Elsie Weeks, Burnside, Ill.
