Charles William "Bill" Cox, 79, of LaHarpe, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe.
He was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Lomax, a son of Frank and Clara Eckhardt Cox. In 1940 he moved in with Cliff and Helen Eckhardt. On Aug. 8, 1950, he married Betty Mae Swanson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She died Sept. 29, 1995.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Selmon (Scott) and Cathy Burford (Jerry), all of LaHarpe; three grandchildren, Tiffany Finch (Trevor) Ryan Quivey and Cindy Fry (Lonnie); six great- grandchildren, Kylie, Coulter, Cayden, Madilyn, Allyssa and Austin; and one brother, Glen Cox of Viola; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of the Terre Haute High School class of 1945. He served in the US Army in World War II with the Military Police. He worked as a car salesman for Fred Gibb Chevrolet and for Carl Motors. In 1967 he and his wife opened the Coast to Coast Store in LaHarpe, which they operated until 1982.
A private family graveside service will be held at LaHarpe Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe Fire Department or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
