A. Arlene Cochran, 78, of Hamilton, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.
She was born on July 5, 1925, in Hamilton, a daughter of Everett and Lucille Stidum Miller. She married E. Hanson Cochran, Jr., on April 8, 1945, in the Hamilton United Methodist Church. He died Sept. 17, 1980.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan G. (Von) Waggoner of Toulon; one son, H. Randy (Susan) Cochran of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Kristen Waggoner, Jordan Waggoner, Vickie Cochran and David Cochran; two great-grandchildren, Erin Jezl and Elissa Jezl.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Stidum, who raised her; her parents; one aunt, Alma Stidum; and her husband.
She graduated from Hamilton High School. She was an active member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, children's choir Director and on many other committees. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Montebello Floral Society. She was very active with Two Rivers Council of Girl Scouts for over 20 years, where she served as a Girl Scout Leader, on various committees and on the Board of Directors. She enjoyed volunteering throughout the community. She was a Green Thumb Worker, most recently working for Kibbe Museum in Carthage. She loved all kinds of music and played piano for many occasions. She especially enjoyed working with children. Other loves included ballroom dancing with her husband, nature and being with her family.
Services were held Saturday, Feb. 28, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton. Rev. Mark Horn and Rev. Don Riley officiated. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
Memorials in memory of A. Arlene Cochran have been established for the Hamilton United Methodist Church.
