SATURDAY A. M.Final Rites For Longtime Resi-
dent of Plymouth Held
Monday AfternoonMrs. Verla Cludray, longtime resident of Plymouth, departed this life Saturday morning, April 18, 1970, at the Modern Manor Nursing home at Mt. Sterling. She had been in failing health for several years and had been a patient in the Colchester Nursing home before going to Mt. Sterling.
Mrs. Cludray was born Dec. 21, 1886 in Hancock township, Hancock county, Illinois, to the late David and Sarah Riggens Gillenwater of the Oak Grove community, where she was reared and educated. Following her marriage to Leslie Cludray they farmed for several years in the Oak Grove area.
Later they operated a cream and egg produce station in Plymouth. Mrs. Cludray was also a grocery clerk in Plymouth stores for many years, making many friends through these public contacts. She also collected water bills for the village of Plymouth for quite some time.
Her affiliations included the Oak Grove Christian church and the Auxiliary of Plymouth Post No. 912 of American Legion.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Cludray of Moline and Dean Cludray of Durham, Mo., to whom she was deeply devoted; four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Carthage. Her pleasing personality won the esteem of many friends. She also leaves nephews and nieces who were fond of "Aunt Verla".
Her parents, one sister, Mrs. Belle Cludray and four brothers, Fred, Jesse, Everett and Manford Gillenwater are deceased.
Final Rites
The Rev. Franklin Woods, pastor of the Oak Grove church, officiated in the final rites held Monday at 2:30 p. m. at the Cookson Funeral home in Plymouth.
Mrs. Wm. Young and Mrs. Orin Cookson sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Leo MeCutchan. There were many beautiful floral tributes.
Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Casket bearers were Stephen Johnson, Wm. Johnson, Cloyd Johnson, Al Whitcomb, Edward Riggens and Marshall Gillenwater.
