Page 7Death has again visited our community and taken one of our aged, highly respected and esteemed citizens from our midst. Marshall L. Clark was born Dec. 11, 1822, in Upshur Co., West Virginia. His father Robt. Clark was born in 1790, a soldier in war of 1812 and was married to Ann Bozarth in 1813, Marshall being the fourth son of this union. Grandpa Clark has been an invalid for many years but his sufferings were very intense the last few weeks and the death angel came last Wednesday at 5 p. m. relieving him of his pain and taking him home where he longed to go and of which he so often spoke. Marshall Clark was nearly 80 years old. In 1847 he was married to Amanda Conrad who died leaving him five children. He was married to Serene Conrad in 1853, who died leaving him four more children. After hewing out of the wilderness home in West Virginia he came with his family to Illinois in 1862. From poverty he had now become the possessor of a good home by industry an economy. In 1889 he was married to Agnes McCall who still survives him. Always a man of reverence he has gone to that one whose name he never took in vain. Receiving especially serious impressions in 1873 in a great revival meeting at the M. E. church here he became a member of that organization transferring his membership in 1876 to the Presbyterian church in same place of which he was always a most faithful member. The funeral services took place at the house Friday Oct. 3d at 2 p. m. Rev. W. H. Clatworthy officiating after which the body was bourn to its resting place in Elvaston cemetery. His grief stricken wife, his children and grandchildren have the sincere sympathy of their many friends. His children who survive him are Lot Clark and Mrs. Martha Ruddle, of this place, John Clark, of Lawrence, Kas., Marshell Clark of California, Mrs. Rachael House, of Memphis, Mo., Robt. and Gilbert Clark of Texas, and Mrs. Mary Cox, of this place. Mrs. Ann Hart was the only one of his children who preceded him to his eternal rest. All attended the funeral except the two sons in Texas.
