Column 5Newton Cauthorn Dead.
Newton Cauthorn, who lived in East Carthage since about 1842 until his removal to Rich Hill, Mo., some ten years ago, died at that place Friday morning, 6th inst. His age was not far from 72. The wife and five children, Lewis, Mrs. Bert Jones and Mrs. Jethro Kimbrough, at Rich Hill, Mrs. John Smith at Hamilton, and John Cauthorn in Jewell county, Kansas, survive.
Mr. Cauthorn was a familiar figure in neighborhood affairs in this township for many years. He was an active local politician, a strong believer in democratic doctrines and ready at all times to do yeoman's service for the men and measures of his choice. He was an exceedingly kindhearted man; ready at all times to help a neighbor in sickness or distress or do any office of citizenship that might be required. His many friends who regretted his removal to Missouri now sincerely mourn his death.
