LEROY CASLEY

Leroy F. Casley, 78, a lifetime Carthage resident, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1991, in the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Mr. Casley was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Keokuk, the son of Edward and Laura Cook Casley.  He married Verna Krueger Oct. 29, 1938, in Keokuk.

He was a farmer in Hancock County and also worked for Rampley Gas in Denver until 1978 when he retired.  He had attended school in Bowen and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Joy) Smith of Carthage; a son, Oscar Casley; two brothers, Carl Casley of Clayton and Donald Casley of Quincy; two sisters, Wanda Nettles of Ursa and Luella Schoonover of Quincy; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Services were held Saturday at the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. James Fox officiating.  Burial was in the Harmony Cemetery at rural Carthage.

A memorial has been established.

Leroy F. Casley

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Leroy F. Casley, 78, of rural Carthage died at 8:08 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 24, 1991) in McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Born Aug. 19, 1913, in Bowen, Mr. Casley was a son of Edward and Laura Cook Casley.  He married Verna Krueger Oct. 29, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa.  She survives.

Mr. Casley was a lifelong resident of the Carthage area and had farmed for many years.  He also had been employed by Rampley Gas service in Denver until retiring in 1978.  He had attended school in Bowen and was a member of First Baptist Church in Carthage.

Survivors also include a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Joy H.) Smith of Carthage; a son, Oscar Casley; two brothers, Carl Casley of Clayton and Donald Casley of Quincy; two sisters, Wanda Nettles of Ursa and Luella Schoonover of Quincy; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Casley was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage by the Rev. James E. Fox.  Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery near Carthage.

There is no visitation but friends are invited to the services.  A memorial fund has been established.
