WEBSTER, Ill. -- Harvey Edward Carle, 69, of Webster, died early Monday morning (Sept. 7, 1992) in his home.
Born April 27, 1923 in McCall, Mr. Carle was a son of Jerry and Gladys Parson Carle. He married Christene Smock on Aug. 18, 1946, in Webster. She survives.
Mr. Carle attended Fountain Green schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1921 of Macomb. He had farmed and worked at the Colchester Stone Co. for several years. He was best known for his hand-dug wells in the area, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his mother of La Harpe; four daughters, Karen Murphy of Havana, Joan Shipman of Webster, Elaine Root of Colchester, and Lou Ann Pence of Carthage; three sons, Ed of Idaho, Donnie of Fountain Green, and Jerry; two brothers, Arthur of Oquawka, and Jack of Macomb; three sisters, Juanita Hanley and Dorothy Winking, both of Quincy, and Maxine Johnson of Carthage; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carle was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Graveside services, with military rites, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in McConnell Cemetery near Fountain Green by the Rev. Dale Eddington.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in La Harpe.
A memorial fund has been established for the family.
