Funeral services for Gerald W. Carle, 50, 1201 Walnut, Carthage, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kilgore-Leathem Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. William Butts officiating. Burial with military rites by the Carthage VFW Post will be in Oak Grove Cemetery southeast of Carthage. A memorial has been established for the Hancock County Cancer Society.
Mr. Carle died Tuesday night, Sept. 7, 1976, in Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
He was born Jan. 21, 1926, near Oak Grove, a son of George and Sarah Whelchel Carle. He married Beverly Carruth Sept. 4, 1971, in Rock Island. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Methodist faith and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Carthage.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Bill of Macomb and George of Rock Island; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Elaine) St. Clair, Mrs. Wilma Noel and Mrs. Roger (Brenda) Case all of Rock Island; three step children, Tom Buttram, Louis Logan and Mrs. Ralph (Linda) Nesseler, all of Rock Island; one sister, Mrs. William (Velma) Welch of Tennessee, nine grandchildren and three step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
