Dies In HospitalElva Smith Carle, wife of Clifford Carle, Sr., of Elvaston, passed away, in Memorial Hospital, Carthage, at 1:15 a. m., July 26, 1953, after an illness of two years, at the age of 55 years, two months and six days. She was the daughter of Jesse E. and Ida Printy Smith and was born May 29, 1898 in Hancock township, near Oak Grove. She joined the Christian Church at an early age.
She was united in marriage to Clifford Carle, October 29, 1913, who survives. To this union were born thirteen children, of which twelve are living: Dorothea, Anaheim, Calif.; Willard, Olive, Calif.; Ida Marie, East Moline, Ill.; Clifford Jr., Carthage; Bernice, Niota, Ill.; William, Doris and Hazel, Carthage, Ill.; Clifton, Columbus, Ind.; Robert J., Charleston, S. C.; Clark and Carol at home and Betty Jo, who died in infancy. Her father, J. E. Smith, and one brother, Frank, Carthage; two sisters, Nancy Dietrich, Bushnell and Jessie Mosley, Carthage, also survive. Besides these she leaves 22 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a hose of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Her mother and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held from the Carthage Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p. m., with Rev. Franklin McGuire, officiating.
Music was in charge of Mrs. Vernen Webster, Mrs. Leonard Miller and Mrs. Lowell Smith.
Pall bearers were: William Carle, Clifford Jr. Carle, Garnett Sammons, Lawrence Smith, Bernard Smith, Rollie Mosley.
Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
