Memphis, MissouriA large crowd attended the funeral of W. Don Burrus at the Greensburg Christian church last Friday afternoon at three o'clock which was conducted by Rev. Harry V. McColloch of Memphis.
Music was by a male quartette. Interment was in the Greensburg cemetery.
As stated in last week's Democrat, Mr. Burrus became suddenly ill at 3 o'clock on Monday morning, June 15, and was taken to a Kirksville hospital that day where he underwent an operation for appendicitis at 1:40 that afternoon. He died at the hospital there on Wednesday afternoon, June 17. His sudden death was a great shock to the community.
Mr. Burrus was born in Scotland county near Bible Grove on January 19, 1877, and lived his entire life in this county with the exception of two seasons which he spent in Colorado. He was a splendid citizen, honest and conscientious in his dealings.
He was a son of the late William D. Burrus, who died a few months ago. His mother, Mrs. Henrietta C. Burrus, died several years ago.
Mr. Burrus was married to Cora E. Donohue on December 24th, 1901. To this union was born one son, Cleo, of Walla Walla, Washington. On March 7th, 1911, he was united in marriage to Myrtle E. Roberts of Greensburg, Mo. To this union was born seven daughters and one son. One infant daughter, Velma Faye, preceded him in death October 12th, 1925.
He is survived by the wife, six daughters; Mrs. Leland McRobert of Downing, Mo.; Virginia, Agnes, Iris, Donna, Ina June and son, Charles Richard, all at home.
Mr. Burrus also leaves one sister, Mrs. Bertha F. Childress, of Englewood, Colorado, and two grandchildren.
