RICHARD BURRUS

Charles Richard Burrus, 72, of Bible Grove, MO, died April 9, 2000, at Keokuk, IA, in his daughter's home after a prolonged illness.

He was born June 29, 1927, at Bible Grove, MO, the son of William Don and Myrtle Roberts Burrus.

Richard married Norma Trent on April 14, 1946, in Kirksville, MO.  They were married 52 years and to this union four children were born.

He attended schools in Scotland County, MO.  He was a member of the Greensburg Lodge #414  A.F. & A.M.  He participated in many community and political activities.

Survivors include four children, Donald Richard Burrus and wife, Carol of South Amana, IA, Kathy Jean Marshall and husband, Terrence of Paget, Bermuda, Karole Ann Smith of Keokuk, IA, and Daniel Leon Burrus and wife, Janet of Fowler, IL; five sisters, Irma McRobert, Donna Doty, Agnes Robinson, and Virginia Kirkpatrick, all of Memphis, MO, and Iris Ott of El Centra, CA; six grandchildren, Rebecca Minnick and husband, Philip of Palmyra, MO, Amy Ward and husband, John of Boone, IA, Tina and Libby Burrus of South Amana, IA, Sarah and Terrence Marshall of Paget, Bermuda; five great-grandchildren, Laura and Caitlin Minnick of Palmyra, MO, Taylor and Ashley Ward of Boone, IA, and Yves Campbell of South Amana, IA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma in 1998; and a sister, Ina June Kennedy.

The family has suggested memorials to Greensburg Cemetery.

Masonic services were held April 11, 2000, by the Greensburg Lodge #414 A.F. & A.M. at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.

Funeral services were held April 12, 2000, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Jim Campbell officiating.  Soloist was Sarah Marshall and organist was Joan Goosey.  Body bearers were Rex Winn, Monte Mumford, Terry Trent, Wm. P. McRobert, Dr. L.M. McRobert, and Eugene Kennedy.  Interment was in the Greensburg Cemetery, Greensburg, MO.  Payne Funeral Chapel of Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.

BIBLE GROVE, Mo. -- C. Richard Burrus, 72, of Bible Grove, died Sunday (April 9, 2000) in his daughter's home in Keokuk, Iowa, after a prolonged illness.

Mr. Burrus was born June 29, 1927, in Scotland County, a son of W. Don and Myrtle Roberts Burrus.  He married Norma Trent April 14, 1946, in Kirksville.  She died Oct. 2, 1998.

Mr. Burrus, a lifelong resident of Scotland County, was a farmer.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Greensburg and also was active in local political committees.

Survivors include four children, Donald and his wife, Carol, of South Amana, Iowa, Kathy Marshall and her husband, Terrence, of Paget, Bermuda, Karole Smith of Keokuk, and Daniel and his wife, Janet, of Fowler, Ill.; five sisters, Irma McRobert, Virginia Kirkpatrick, Agnes Robinson and Donna Doty, all of Memphis, and Iris Ott of El Centro, Calif.; six grandchildren, Rebecca Minnick and her husband, Philip, of Palmyra, Amy Ward and her husband, John, of Boone, Iowa, Tina and Libby Burrus, both of South Amana, and Sarah and Terrence Marshall, both of Paget; five great-grandchildren, Laura and Caitlin Minnick, both of Palmyra, Taylor and Ashley Ward, both of Boone, and Yves Campbell of South Amana; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Rose in infancy, and Ina June Kennedy Hall.

Services will be conducted Wednesday in the Payne Funeral Home in Memphis.  Burial will be in Greensburg Cemetery in Greensburg.

Visitation and Masonic rites will be Tuesday evening in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Greensburg Cemetery.
