MILDRED O. BURKETT

Jan. 11, 1912 -- March 18, 2004

Mildred Oneta Burkett, 92, a resident of the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage, and formerly of Blandinsville, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the nursing home.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1912, in Clark County, Mo., the daughter of Edgar Frank and Mary Nancy Nichols Oard.  She married Edgar Burkett on Aug. 28, 1932, in Clark County.  He died Feb. 27, 1973.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Shepard of Sciota and O. Darlene (Joe) McSperritt of Carthage; two sons, Frank (Kathy) Burkett of Carthage and H. Glenn (Nancy L.) Burkett of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Ronda Burkett of Yatesville, Ga.; one sister, Louise Wallingford of Farmington, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Iola Oard of Burlington; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; one step great great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, C. Wendle Burkett; one grandson, Mark Edward Shepard; and two brothers, John and Bob Oard.

She lived most of her married life in the Blandinsville area.  She taught school in the early 50's, and worked at the grocery store and the locker plant.  Later on she babysat for many area children, and eventually for their children as well.  She attended Blandinsville Baptist Church, and also served as the recreation director at the park in Blandinsville.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Blandinsville. Rev. Billy Johnson officiated.  Burial followed in the Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville.

Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Nursing Home.

Mildred Oneta Burkett, 92, Hancock County Nursing Home, Carthage, formerly of Blandinsville, died at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the nursing home.
