Ward Raymond Bryant, 75, of 344 Chester St., Keokuk, died at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City.
He was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Keokuk, to Leo and Rose Dalton Bryant. He married Virginia "Maxine" Hackard on Aug. 6, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death.
He served in World War II. He had worked for the Rock Island and Burlington Northern Railroad, and later for Crandon Paper Mills in Fort Madison, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fort Madison, the Southside Boat Club and the Eagles Club of Keokuk.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Sam (Anna Rose) Hackett of Bartonville, Ill., and Mrs. Steven (Marsha) Hayes of Fort Madison; a son, Roger Bryant and his wife, Karen, of Keokuk; five grandsons and a granddaughter, two great granddaughters; three sisters, Helen Howard and Mary Jump, both of Keokuk, and Freida Rose of Louisville, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ruth Reynolds and Floyd Smeltser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the Bro. Bill Hauser officiating.
Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at DeJong's Funeral Home, and the family will meet with friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
