Verna L. Bryant

Verna L. Bryant, daughter of Charles and Hattie Dean Self, was born October 7, 1889, in Scotland County, Missouri, and passed away December 27, 1982, in the Scotland County Memorial Nursing Home at the age of 93 years.

She was united in marriage to Charles E. Bryant, December 25, 1910, at her home in Memphis, Missouri.  To this union one son and one daughter were born.

Surviving are Paul Bryant and wife, Ruth, of Memphis and Ruth Bryant Speer and husband, Wayne of Memphis, Missouri; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She was affiliated with the Bethel Methodist Church at an early age.  At the age of nine she began as organist and continued until she left the community.

She spent her entire life in Scotland County.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, December 29, 1982, at 10 a.m. conducted by Payne-Gerth Funeral Home from their Memphis Chapel.  Rev. Kenneth Campbell officiated.  Organist was Ann Luther and Kenneth Campbell was soloist.  Burial was in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery, northeast of Memphis.  Body bearers were Dick Johnson, John Dodge, Doug Jones, Leon Buford, Robert Shanes and Clyde Mitchell.
