Joan 'Ruth' Bryant

Joan "Ruth" Bryant, 72, of Keokuk, died at 2:41 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born on Aug. 20, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Edward L. and Esther L. Mills Kunter. She married Donald L. Bryant on March 4, 1950, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1989.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lyn Rash of Keokuk; a son, Rodney L. Bryant of Keokuk; two granddaughters, Joanie L. Steele and Jamie Lyn Rash of Keokuk; two foster grandsons, Robert D. Mortimer and Bradley J. Gilpin and his wife, Jeannie Lyn, all of Keokuk; five great-grandchildren, Destiney L. Gilpin, Anthony Jon Rash, Gabriel D. Rash, Jessie D. Rash and Kaylee Dayle Gilpin; a sister, Betty Elmore and her husband, Basil, of Arizona; and nieces and nephews, Susie and Mark Atterberg, Gail Ann Miller and Ronnie Bryant.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Raymond Rash.
She had lived in Keokuk since 1948 and had been employed by Dryden Rubber and then by Don & Ed's grocery and gas in Alexandria, Mo.
Mrs. Bryant enjoyed crocheting, rose gardens and crossword puzzles and was an avid NASCAR race fan.
She was known as "Buggy" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery following the services.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #41 of Keokuk.
DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.
Note: There is no mention of Rodney L. Bryant in the obit for Donald Leroy Bryant. Therefore, Rodney's place in the blood-line is in question. He could be adopted.
