James Bryant Sr. Dies Suddenly on Saturday

James Carroll Bryant, Sr., 49, of 222 1/2 Exchange, died at 10 a.m. Saturday of a coronary occlusion suffered on the street.  He was pronounced dead on arrival at Graham Hospital.

Born June 21, 1910 in Greensburg, Missouri, he was the son of Leo Vernon and Rose Elizabeth Dalton Bryant.  He had lived in Keokuk for 40 years and was employed at the Keokuk Electro-Metals Company.

On December 26, 1930, he married Fern A. Rice in Kirksville.

Surviving are his father, and step-mother, two sons, Leo O. and James Carroll, Jr. of Keokuk, three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Betty Lou) Fox of Keokuk, Mrs. Gerald (Laura Marie) Beasick of Douds and Mrs. Richard (Joyce Ann) Daisy of Lake City, a brother, Ward of Luray, Missouri. five sisters, Mrs. Carl (Fern) Rose Louisville, Kentucky, Mrs. Lester (Mary) Jump, Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Howard and Mrs. Darrell (Eva) Burdette all of Keokuk and Mrs. Verna Mitchell of Alexandria and four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers, a sister and grandson.

The body is at DeJong's Funeral Home where the services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. T. Chandler Burton officiating.  Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
