Mrs. Lucinda Bruce

Lucinda Stotlar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stotlar, was born in Tazewell county, Ill., Aug. 11, 1864, and passed away Dec. 1st, 1934, at Joetta, aged 70 years, 3 months and 20 days.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Bruce, Sept. 27, 1882, at Morton, Ill., later they moved to a farm near Carthage, Ill., where they resided until his death, Feb. 23, 1933.

To this union four children were born, a son and daughter dying in infancy.  Those remaining are, a son, Reuben L. Bruce, of Versailles, Ill., and a daughter, Mrs. Maudie McGee, at whose home she was tenderly cared for during the six months of steady decline.

Besides her devoted son and daughter, she is mourned by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and the following half-brothers and half-sister, Frank Stotlar, of Alexandria, Mo.; Vincent and John Stotlar, of this county; and Mrs. Mary Dickson, of Kahoka, Mo.  Three half-sisters, Mrs. Sadie Carroll, Mrs. Ella Brooks and Nettie Stotlar, and one half-brother, Will Stotlar preceded her in death.

Although bereft of a mother's tender care and training when very young, she developed into a woman of lovely character, and too much can't be said of her loyalty to family and friends and unexcelled patience with which she bore her suffering.

Funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Oak Grove church, Rev. Fred S. Nichols officiating.  Burial at Oak Grove.
