Jerome Lee Brownlee, 81, of Warsaw, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his home in Warsaw.
He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Iowa City, Iowa, a son of Laun and Helen Hartsock Brownlee. On Feb. 24, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa, he married Edna E. Eales.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of Warsaw; one daughter, Shirley D. Brownlee of Warsaw; one son, Francis K. (Sharon) Brownlee of Hamilton; one daughter-in-law, Lenora Brownlee of Warsaw; one sister, Beverly (Roger) Brink of Warsaw; one brother, Richard "Dick" (Barbara) Brownlee of Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Patti (Brad) Householder of Warsaw, Darrell Brownlee of Warsaw, Renee (Lee) Mills of Hamilton, Sonya (Michael) Ransford of Keokuk, Michelle (Jerrod) Leffler of Hamilton, Debra (Arnold) Gonzalez of Hamilton and Todd (Joni) Brownlee of Mackinaw; 13 great grandchildren - Alexsis, Devin, Alayna, Dylan Diveney, all of Hamilton, Justin Brownlee of Montrose, Iowa, Damyen, Daryen Mills, both of Hamilton, Trystan, Kyle, Breann Householder, all of Warsaw, Jaiden Brownlee of Mackinaw, Daniella and Alex Gonzalez, both of Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Keith W. and Larry L. Brownlee; one grandson, James J. Brownlee; five sisters, Sarah Kimbrough, Dorothy Conover, Joyce Mitchell, Pat Brownlee, Jeanne Ann (Skip) Gordy; and three brothers, Kenneth Gardner, Stanley and Gordon Brownlee.
He attended school at Rockford in the Warsaw Bottoms. He served in the United States Navy during World War II having been stationed in the South Pacific. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hamilton, where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of local 148, and was retired from Foote Mineral. He was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing, mowing his yard, and ball games. He enjoyed Hamilton and Warsaw fast pitch softball games and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10, at the Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton. Rev. John R. Simpson officiated. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw with full military services at the graveside.
Memorials in the name of Jerome Lee Brownlee have been established for the First Christian Church in Hamilton.
