Okle M. Browning, 90, of LaHarpe, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at her home.
She was born April 11, 1917, near Fountain Green, a daughter of Thomas and Inez Burrow Campbell. On June 25, 1938, she married Luther Browning in Ottumwa, Iowa. He died Nov. 15, 1994.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Olson of LaHarpe; one son, Leon Browning of Durham; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Haldene "Dee" Campbell of Los Angeles, Calif., Cleo Campbell of Quincy and Galen Campbell of Beloit, Wis.; one sister, Era "Sissy" Long of Decatur; a special brother-in-law and friend, Oscar "Bud" Mittermeyer of LaHarpe; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Beverly, in infancy, and Carol Boone; one sister, Erice Campbell; three brothers, Bernard, Daren and Larry Campbell; and one great-granddaughter.
She was a graduate of LaHarpe High School in 1936. She was a member of the LaHarpe United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 30 years. She also attended the Grace Bible Church in Dallas City. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Lomax Canning Factory until it closed and then became a nurses aid at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Revs. Larry Menschel and Louis Day will officiate. Burial will follow in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, where family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe United Methodist Church, the Grace Bible Church or MDH Hospice.
