Milerd L. Brown, 82, of Carthage, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, in the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.
He was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Hancock Township, Hancock County, the son of Reuben Edward and Nola November Ruddell Brown. On Dec. 26, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo., he married Mary "Virginia" Hitz. She died Jan. 17, 2000.
He is survived by four daughters, Suzanne (Russell) Ferrell of Hamilton, Joyce (Paul) Fooken of Carthage, Cherry Shepler of Colchester, and Ann Brown and her fiance, Rodney Fosdyck, of Bowen; four sons, Joseph Brown of Bowen, Jack (Marsha) Brown of Macomb, Jay (Pam) Brown of Carmen, and Michael (Vickie) Brown of Carthage; two sisters, Irma Filmore of Colfax, and Geneva (Robert) Dulaney of Hamilton; two brothers, Reuben Brown, of Carthage and Ira (Marileen) Brown of Basco; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; two sons, Charles and Andy; and three sisters, Jane Davis, Freda Montgomery and Delena Lemley.
He loved playing cards, softball, and was an avid Cardinal fan. He loved being in the woods, hunting raccoons, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Graveside services were held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Bowen City Cemetery, in Bowen. Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiated.
Memorials have been established for the family.
Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
