RUTH E. BRIGGS

June 6, 1930 -- April 22, 2003

Ruth Ellena Briggs, 72, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at her home in Memphis, Mo.

She was born June 6, 1930, the daughter of Elder Claude and Winnie Mae Bandle Webb.  On Oct. 29, 1947, she married Harold Max Briggs.  He died May 31, 2000.

She is survived by her 104-year old mother, Winnie Webb, of Hamilton; one daughter, Carol (Willis) Garrett of Memphis, Mo.; six sons, Richard (Elaine) Briggs of Memphis, Robert (Donna) Briggs of Quincy, Tom (Sherri) Briggs of Memphis, Garry (Pat) Briggs of Bloomfield, Iowa, Paul (Debbie) Briggs of Memphis, and Tony (Terri) of Memphis; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Jones and Louise Ikerd, both of Carthage; two brothers, Raymond Webb of Bentley and George Louis Webb of Basco; one sister-in-law, Vada Jackson of Lancaster, Mo. and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father; one sister, Evelyn; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

She grew up in Bentley and attended rural school Bentley and high school in Carthage.  After she married, she moved to Scotland County, Mo., near Bible Grove and later to Memphis where she worked in various places for several years.  She retired from Casey's where she worked in the bakery.  She was a member of the Providence Primitive Baptist Church from an early age and remained a faithful member until her death.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 27, at the Payne Funeral Chapel Memphis, MoElder Randy Webb officiated.  Burial followed in the Bible Grove Church of Christ Cemetery, Bible Grove, Mo.

The family suggested memorials to: Hospice 2000, or Bible Grove Church of Christ Cemetery.  They may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, Mo., 63555.

Ruth Ellena Briggs, 72, passed away April 22, 2003, at her home in Memphis, MO.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Briggs and his wife, Elaine of Memphis, MO, Robert Briggs and his wife, Donna of Quincy, IL, Tom Briggs and his wife, Sherri of Memphis, MO, Garry Briggs and his wife, Pat of Bloomfield, IA, Paul Briggs and his wife, Debbie of Memphis, MO, Tony Briggs and his wife, Terri of Memphis, MO, and one daughter, Carol Garrett and her husband, Willis of Memphis, MO; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her 104-year-old mother of Hamilton, IL; two brothers, Raymond Webb and Lewis Webb; two sisters, Doris Jones and Louise Ikerd, all of Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Vada Jackson of Lancaster, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Randy Webb, officiating.  Pallbearers were Richard Briggs, Tom Briggs, Garry Briggs, Paul Briggs, Tony Briggs, and Carol Garrett.  Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren.  Interment was in the Bible Grove Church of Christ Cemetery, Bible Grove, MO.  Payne Funeral Chapel of Memphis, MO was in charge of arrangements.
