John W. Briggs
Dies at Home

John W. Briggs died at 1:05 o'clock this afternoon in his home; 1403 William Street.

The body was taken to the Schmidt Memorial Home.  The funeral arrangements and obituary will be published Monday.

Funeral Service
For John Briggs
Will be Tuesday

Funeral service for John William Briggs who died at his home, 1403 William street, Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock, will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Schmidt Memorial Home.  Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

He had been ill since June 3, 1948.

The son of Robert and Hannah Butler Briggs, he was born May 6, 1866 in Waterloo, Mo., and came to Keokuk 26 years ago.  Previously he had lived in Kahoka and Wayland, Mo.  He was a general carpenter and farmer.

On January 1, 1899, he married Rose B. Edmonson in Kahoka.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife; a son, William Henry Briggs of Keokuk; five daughters, Mrs. E. A. (Viola) Daw of Keokuk; Mrs. Harold (Mildred) Haley of Chicago; Mrs. Frank (Edna) Jones of Bloomfield; Mrs. Walter (Mable) Kemper of Argyle; and Mrs. T. R. (Frances) Smith of North Bend, Ore.

There also is a brother, Peter T. Briggs, of Kahoka; 9 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.  His eldest son, Forrest, preceded him in death March 2, 1901 and six brothers and two sisters also preceded him.
