Lee Boyd

Funeral services for Ezra Lee Boyd, 84, rural Plymouth, were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 1 in Cookson & Son Funeral Home, Plymouth, with the Rev. Roger Boyd officiating.  Burial was in Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.

Boyd died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 30, 1970, in Memorial Hospital, Carthage.

He was born Dec. 2, 1885, in Floyd County, Va., a son of Thomas and Lucy Mae Reed Boyd.  He married Minnie Reed Dec. 17, 1910, in Hancock County.  He was discharged Apr. 1, 1910, from the navy after serving four years.  He was a member of the St. Mary's Baptist Church, Plymouth Masonic Lodge and Quincy Consistory and was a graduate of Angola, Ind., College.  He had worked for Fairbanks Morse as an electrical engineer in St. Louis and Little Rock, Ark., and had farmed in the Stillwell and Plymouth areas.

Surviving with his wife are two foster sons, Paul and John Munger of Plymouth; one brother, Clyde of Macomb; and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Hess of Macomb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roy.

Plymouth Farmer; Final Rites
Tuesday, September 1

Peaceful and final rest for Lee Boyd, highly regarded retired Plymouth farmer, came at 2:45 Sunday afternoon, August 30, 1970 at Memorial hospital, CarthageMr. Boyd had been in frail health for some time and had entered the hospital on Aug. 12.

Final Rites Tuesday

Final rites for Mr. Boyd were held at 1 p. m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Cookson Funeral home in Plymouth.  A nephew, Rev. Roger Boyd of Lincoln, Ill., officiated in the services that were largely attended.  His message brought comfort to loved ones and friends.

Miss Irene Sellars and Otis Howe sang, "Sometime We'll Understand," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Glen Sellars.

There was a profusion of lovely floral tributes and other kindnesses extended the family.

Interment was in Moss Ridge cemetery at Carthage.  Bearing the remains to their final resting place were Clay Miller, Clarence McCutchan, Glenn White, Robert Shappell, Wayne Lovell and Rolland Powell.

Masonic Rites

Masonic rites, held at the funeral home Monday night at 8 were impressive.  Everett H. Swisegood and Loren Hurst officiated in the services.

In Memoriam

Ezra Lee Boyd, son of the late Thomas Calloway and Lucy Mae Reed Boyd, was born Dec. 2, 1885 in Floyd county, Virginia.

He was a graduate of Angola College, Angola, Indiana.  From April 2, 1906 until April 1, 1910 he served in the United States Navy.

On December 17, 1910 he was united in marriage with Minnie Reed in Hancock township, Hancock county, Illinois.  For a year they farmed in the Stillwell community then moved to Chicago where he was employed by Pneumatic Tool and Die Company.

Later for a number of years they resided in St. Louis, Mo., and Little Rock, Ark., where he held a position with Fairbanks Morse as an electrical engineer.  Since 1920 he had farmed in St. Marys township where their present farm home is located.  Their home was hospitable, kindred and friends alike always receiving a warm greeting.

Two foster sons, Paul and John Munger were reared in this home and loved as own sons.  Mr. Boyd was a member of the St. Marys Baptist church, Plymouth Masonic Lodge and Quincy Consistory.  His upright walk of life was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Surviving are the devoted companion; the foster sons, Paul and John Munger, and the former's family, one brother, Clyde of Macomb, and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Hess of Macomb, with other relatives.  Mr. Boyd numbered his friends by his acquaintances.

Awaiting him in Life Beyond are the parents and one brother, Roy.
