The funeral of Mrs. Wm. Berges occurred at the Presbyterian church Friday last.  Rev. Love's discourse was very touching.  Select music was furnished by the choir.  The large concourse of people who assembled over the bad roads were silent witnesses of the high esteem and respect in which this lady was held.  Burial in Fountain Green cemetery.

[Our correspondent encloses with the above news letter, an obituary of this worthy lady, the publication of which, owing to the crowd of other matter, is deferred until next week.---ED]

FOUNTAIN GREEN.

OBITUARY.

Verdelia J., wife of William Berges, died at her home near Blandinsville in the ear1y morning of May 20, 1908, aged 35 years, 1 month and 28 days.

Verdelia J. Duffy was born at the old homestead in Hancock township on March 22, 1873.  Was the daughter of Samuel S. and Frances Duffy.  She was united in marriage to William Berges on March 17, 1897.  To this union five children were born, one daughter and four sons.  Besides the husband and little ones, she is survived by her father and mother, two brothers; S. B. Duffy of Fountain Green, and J. A. Duffy of Hancock township, also two sisters, Mrs. Murray Pennock of Carthage, and Mrs. Frank Carey of Plymouth, Ind., all of whom have been unfailing in their thoughtfulness and care during the long months of sickness and suffering through which Mrs. Berges passed.  Never very robust, a heavy cold taken last fall settled upon her lungs, and she began to decline.  All that the love and devotion of husband and friends could suggest, was done to prolong her life, and although she battled bravely the dread disease, consumption, claimed her as a victim, and today the hearts of many friends are bowed in grief and sympathy for those who mourn the loss of this loved one.

Dillie, as she was lovingly called by family and friends, grew to womanhood in our midst, and early developed those graces of mind and heart which have followed her through the years.  As a kind and dutiful daughter, as a helpful and loving wife, as a devoted mother, and as a faithful friend, she brought to bear upon each relation in life, that fidelity and loyalty, which make her name and memory stand today for all that is lovely and good and true.  She was essentially a homemaker, her sweet and affectionate nature finding its greatest delight in those kindly ministries which go to make home pleasant, and bring comfort and happiness to the loved ones there.  While very young she gave her heart unto the Savior's keeping, and on February 8, 1891, united with the Presbyterian church of Fountain Green.  She brought into her christian life the same faithfulness and devotion which characterized her everywhere.  Her faith and courage were shown in the patience with which the long sickness was borne, and in the cheerfulness with which she submitted to the Father's will.  Leaving all in his hands confidently believing that the same heavenly Friend in whom she trusted would watch over and care for the loved ones, and so she fell asleep in Jesus.

"Weep not for the removing of the
           lovelight from your eyes,
Another star begins to glow o'er the
           hills of Paradise.
The home is dark, the heart is sad
           with gloomy vague unrest,
But another home is lighted in the
           mansions of the blest."
