For Fred J. Berg
Are Held SaturdayFuneral services for Fred J. Berg, 70, of near Carthage were held Saturday, Dec. 31, at 3 p. m. in the Fecht funeral home, Rev. Paul T. Hersch officiating. "The Lords' Prayer" was sung by Dr. M. H. Corbridge with Mrs. Ted Lane at the organ. Pallbearers were Ubbe Bruns, Junius Vance, Fred Ufkes, Henry Gronewold, John Fooken and Amos Fecht. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, south of Carthage. He died in his home Thursday, Dec. 29.
Berg was born near LaPrairie March 26, 1885, the son of Jurgen and Anna Rosendale Berg. He was baptized in Golden and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran church but later transferred his membership to Trinity Lutheran church in Carthage. He was married in Golden Nov. 24, 1910, to Miss Bertha Osterman. She died May 11, 1947. Also preceding him in death were a brother, John, two half sisters and two half brothers.
Surviving are two sons, Jurgen and Charles of Havana; a daughter, Mrs. Harry Ervin of Carthage; four brothers, Louis of Carthage, Herman and Jurgen of Basco, Henry of Paola, Kans.; two half-brothers, William Louring of Carthage and George Louring of Albany, Ore.; a half-sister, Mrs. Hilka Huls of Basco; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
