Column 4John Logan, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Belknap, was born near Joetta Feb. 23, 1887, and died Sunday, June 28, 1908, at the St. Francis hospital in Macomb, where he had been taken the day previous. Death resulted from heart disease. He was taken ill last January with inflammatory rheumatism, which finally affected his heart. He had been in a critical condition for many weeks, and it was decided to take him to the hospital for treatment. His body was taken to the Hainline funeral parlors and prepared for burial, and was then taken to the late home, from which place the funeral was held on Tuesday. Interment in the family cemetery at the old home. All of his life was spent at the parental home. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Besides his parents to mourn his departure, he leaves the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Mabel Austin, of Manhattan, Kansas, Bertha, Freddie, Tresly, Deany, Blanche and Alpha, all at home, and Mrs. Mary Weir, of Joetta.

Column 6Again this community was made sad by the death of John Logan Belknap, oldest son of Willis and Malinda Belknap. Deceased was born Feb. 23, 1887, and died June 28, 1908, aged 21 years, 4 months and 5 days.
After five months of intense suffering which he so patiently bore, the heavenly father called him to the home above where sickness, sorrow nor death never come. He heard the call and said if it was God's will he was ready and not afraid to die. He was conscious until the end when he kissed his father and mother time and again and told them how good they were to him. Sad the parting but what a joyful meeting there will be with the redeemed through Christ.
John lived with his parents one mile south of Joetta and was held in high esteem by all who knew him but most especially do those who were in daily contact with his quiet and industrious life know of his goodness. He will be sadly missed, especially in the home. His short life was that of a dutiful son and loving brother. There is left to mourn his departure, father and mother, two brothers and five sisters, Mrs. May Austin, of Kansas, Mrs. Mary Wear, of this vicinity, Bertha, Dena, Alpha, Fred and Ralph at home, besides a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, June 30, conducted by Rev. Sherman, pastor at Ferris. His body was laid to rest in the old home cemetery.
