Rev. Chas. Belknap

Rites Tuesday

The Rev. Charles Leroy Belknap, 86, retired Congregational minister, passed away Saturday (May 24, 1969) about 11:15 a. m. in Jacksonville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, at 2 p. m. at the Neiser Funeral home in Bowen, the Rev. LaMarr Bender, officiating.  Mrs. Carlin Morton provided comforting music for the service.

Interment was in Bowen cemetery.  Casketbearers were Donnie Akers, Frank Akers, Jr., Terry Akers, William Akers, Michael Cludray and Donald Webster.

Mr. Belknap was born at Danville March 13, 1883, a son of Albert A. and Elizabeth VanCamp Belknap.  He attended Danville schools and was ordained a Congregational minister over 50 years ago at Villa Grove.  He married Ethyl L. Jones in Danville May 26, 1904.  She passed away in 1949.

Mr. Belknap served pastorates in Warrensburg, Grand Chaim, Mattoon, Bowen, Sumer Hill, Paloma and Melrose Chapel and Mound City.  He retired from his last regular pastorate about six years ago.  He was a member of the Congregational church at Mendon and the Camp Point Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are a son, David L. of Quincy; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Eleanor) Kohut of Springfield, Va., and Mrs. Frank (Ethyl) Akers of Bowen; a nephew, William Belknap of Stillwater, Okla.; eight grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren.  Two brothers are deceased.
