Keokuk, IowaGilbert L. Beaty

Gilbert L. Beaty, 85, of Keokuk, died Thursday, May 29, at the Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born on March 13, 1912, in Argyle, Iowa, to Howard Lincoln and Emma Johnson Beaty. He married Erma L. Simpson Howe on Oct. 25, 1952, in Keokuk. She survives.
Other survivors include: one brother, Robert Beaty, of Atlantic, Iowa; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
As a young man he worked on a ranch in California for several years.
He joined the United States Army and served from March 1942 to December 1943.
Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Keokuk and was employed by Dryden Rubber in Keokuk for 13 years. He farmed in the Argyle area for 11 years until his retirement in 1971.
He was a member of the American Legion in Keokuk.
He enjoyed animals, birds, and gardening.
Graveside services with military rites are at 1 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the Keokuk National Cemetery.
There is no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice or to the donor's choice.
Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.
