Webster, Died May 2A. L. Barr, life long resident of Hancock county suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday morning, and passed away at his home east of Carthage, Monday, May 2, at 10:15 p. m. aged 87 years, 6 months and 1 day.
Albert Leach Barr, youngest child of Gabriel and Lily Scott Barr, was born in Lee County, Iowa, October 31, 1861. At about two years of age he came with his parents to Fountain Green, Illinois, where his mother passed away August 26, 1866. His father, six sisters and three brothers also preceded him in death.
After the death of his mother, he made his home with his sister, until his marriage to Miss Ida E. White, on November 7, 1894. They established their home on a farm in Hancock Township, where he has since resided.
To this union seven children were born, two dying in infancy. The following are left to mourn his passing: Mrs. Kerus Huston, of Blandinsville, Albert, at the old homestead, Mrs. Elmer Wilson, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Glenn Bunch of Good Hope and Lyle of Carthage. There are also eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One grandson, Edward A. Huston, lost his life in the service of his country on Nov. 18, 1944. The devoted wife and mother passed away, March 28, 1939.
Mr. Barr was a successful farmer and stockman for many years. He was also interested in good government, both national and local, and had held many offices of responsibility in Hancock Township during his long life.
Though frail in health for many years, his invincible spirit and courage continued unabated through the years. His labors were lessened, when his eldest son, Albert, at an early age, took over the management of the farm. Mr. Barr's declining years were made happy and content by the devoted care of his children and grandchildren. He was a good and loving father, his home and children having first place in his life. He was a good neighbor and friend, always giving a hearty welcome to guests in his home. He will be sadly missed by a wide circle of friends.
