JESSIE BAKER

Dec. 16, 1903 -- March 20, 1994

Jessie H. Baker, 90, of Carthage, died Sunday, March 20, at the Montebello Manor Nursing Care Center in Hamilton.

She was born on Dec. 16, 1903, in McDonough County, the daughter of Henry and Elida Jane Burke Harmon.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including local nieces and nephews: Jane McDaniel of Carthage, Bill McConnell of Burnside, John McConnell of Maquon, Robert McConnell of Keokuk, Iowa, and Clyde McConnell of Quincy; and one sister, Donna Kline of Montebello Manor Health Care Center of Hamilton and formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mary, who died as an infant, Hattie Harmon, Roxie Hungate and Grace McConnell; and six brothers, Ross, Ivan, Glen, Burke, Frank and Joe Harmon.

She was a graduate of Carthage High School.  She graduated from Los Angeles County Nursing School.  She retired from nursing at the Los Angeles County Hospital after 30 years of nursing.

She was of the Christian Faith.

Services were held Tuesday at the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. Philip Nevius officiating.  Burial was held in the McConnell Cemetery of rural Carthage.

A memorial has been established for the First Christian Church of Carthage.
