BOY BLEEDS TO DEATH FROM AX WOUND IN LEG

Ray Austin, son of Mrs. May Austin Carroll and William Austin, of Joetta near Carthage, bled to death as the result of a wound received in the leg when he was accidentally struck by an ax while he and his brother were cutting wood in the timber.  Ray who was aged nine years bled to death before his brother could notify and secure the services of a physician.  He is survived by his mother and father, two brothers and three sisters.

Coroner J. P. Lummis went to Joetta Wednesday and held an inquest over the remains of the boy, the verdict being that he came to his death from circumstances above related.

Ray was preceded in death by his father.

Ray is buried in the Belknap Cemetery in Hancock Township, Hancock Co., IL.
