Page 15A Sad Accident
Thos. Alley, brother of Jep. Alley who lives on the Robt. Baird farm northeast of this city, was shot and badly wounded Saturday night. Young Alley, who is about 18 years of age, and two other companions were playing with a 32 icalbre revolver. One took the loads all out as he supposed and was aimlessly snapping it, when a load went off the bullet taking effect in Alley's side, going through the stomach. A surgeon from Keokuk was summoned and resorted to all the aid that could be given. He died Tuesday morning. It is a case of "didn't know it was loaded" and no blame is attached to the unfortunate young companion who was handling the weapon at the time of the disaster.
