Funeral services for Roy L. Allen, 53, of Plymouth were held Saturday, July 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the Plymouth Assembly of God church, the Rev. Virgil Spain officiating. The Rev. Arthur McKinley of Pekin, former pastor of the church, assisted. William Griffith sang "It Is No Secret," and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Olin Aleshire was the pianist. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens near Macomb.
Mr. Allen died Thursday, July 8, in Memorial hospital in Carthage, where he had been a patient for 18 days. Previously he had been a patient at the Mayo Brothers hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Born May 21, 1912, he was a son of Frank and Pearl Alexander Allen. He attended Elm Grove rural school.
On Feb. 28, 1935 he was married to Avery Akers in Macomb. They established their home east of Plymouth, later moving to a farm nine miles northwest of Plymouth, where he was living at the time of his death. Mrs. Allen died Aug. 20, 1951.
On April 21, 1960 he was married to Carroll Purdy, who survives.
Surviving with the widow are nine children, Sidney of Plymouth, Mrs. Sandra Shipman of Burlington, Iowa, Earl and Larry and Mrs. Linda McQuigg of Carthage, Mrs. Janice Payne of Sciota, and Christine, Cheryl, and Daniel, at home; 18 grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Clara Futhey of Golden, Mrs. Kenneth Hill of Clayton, Mrs. Emma Hamilton and Mrs. Lola Hornecker of Augusta, Gilbert of Mt. Sterling, and Ralph and Vernon of Clayton; and two half-brothers, William and Henry Underwood of California.
